Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Removal/Delete Solutions in London, Surrey & West Sussex
What is a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)?
The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) comes standard on most diesel engine vehicles, and it’s designed to capture soot and other pollutants before they can be emitted into the atmosphere. However, being that this component is a filter, it needs to be cleaned to remove the soot and contaminant buildup from time to time. This is accomplished via “regeneration”, – and it’s an arduous process.
For regeneration to occur, the vehicle must have at least a quarter tank of fuel and must travel at speeds of 45 miles per hour (or more) consistently so that the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) can heat up hot enough to burn out the contaminants. But being that regeneration can take up to 45 minutes to complete, maintaining consistently high speeds can be a challenge for some diesel drivers (especially around town)– and when regeneration cannot occur, the DPF can become clogged, and the engine can also sustain damage.
Rather than deal with the hassle of a clogged Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and potential engine damage – not to mention the repairs and downtime that come with such.
Whilst many opt for the removal process, we highly recommend going through a thorough diagnostic session to find the cause of the blocked DPF, this can sometimes be remedied by a replacement sensor and/or a DPF clean, which is another service we provide.
Any vehicle that comes to us for DPF removal, must only do so if the vehicle is being used for Motorsport/Track Days only. Because of this the vehicle MUST be recovered away from site.
Are there any benefits of a DPF Delete/Removal?
In short yes, there are a few advantages of having the DPF removed from the vehicle.
• Fuel Economy: The vehicles fuel economy would improve drastically for two reasons, one being that the vehicle would not need to regenerate, during the regeneration process the vehicle uses a lot of fuel in order to heat the DPF hot enough to burn off the particulate matter in the exhaust. The second would be due to the DPF being physically removed allows the exhaust gases to pass through the exhaust much easier, allowing the engine to perform better and increasing power whilst also reducing fuel consumption.
By removing the Diesel Particulate Filter from the ECU, your vehicle will no longer receive any error message from it; consequently, if you have a temporary problem with your car and need the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to be replaced, then bypassing it with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) deletion can make sense, especially if you are not planning on driving on the road. It could make towing something heavy with an off-road vehicle that much easier by offering increased torque and power when you need it. The DPF deletion service provided by Surrey Tuning Automotive is best reserved for diesel engine vehicles that are destined for export and which will only be used for off-roading.
